We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and gorgeously comfy room. Also breakfast was delicious. My main issue was with the food. we opted for the e59 deal that included overnight stay and a 4 course meal. On ...
arrival staff were very attentive, however we got a surprise when we found the bottle of wine we had ordered with our meal, in our room. It was also not the bottle we had selected online, and it was a bit strange carrying a bottle of wine into the restaurant with us! The menu in the restaurant read beautifully, but when the food came out it was very disappointing. the trout starter was overcooked and the ham hock was cold and greasy. Also the pesto dressing did nothing to enhance the flavours of the ham. We waited for 40 minutes for our mains to arrive, and when they did, my brill was overcooked and soggy and the steak was tough and done well beyond the medium to well request. I felt like we should have returned it and asked to have it served in a stew it was so tough! The sauce on the brill had begun to congeal as though left under the hotlamp in the kitchen for longer than it should have. Dessert and coffee were nice, as were the vegetables. Also-and it's a small thing perhaps, but one that i don't like having been a waitress myself-our waiter didn't write down our order for our mains, which left us wondering if the order had been received when we were waiting for so long. Also the waiter appeared rushed and under pressure which is why we mumbled 'fine' when asked if everything was ok. The food really let down what was otherwise a lovely stay in a beautiful hotel. The menu suggests that the chefs are extremely inventive, but it was the basics that left down this meal. I think a bistro style restaurant where simple food is cooked well would afford a much better review from me on my return! ---
